Bottle top buttons
These buttons are made using a ‘Dorset’ button technique that I found similar to Ojos de Dios or ‘God’s eyes’. First I cut away the top of the cap to make a ring and then bound it with thread – which was very satisfying because the grooves are already there.
The main part of the button was wound round like a spider’s web. I followed instructions on how to make a shank which was necessary due to the depth of the button.
The trickiest part was learning how to do buttonholes on my sewing machine…
I used these buttons to make a cushion from an old wool blanket, and I’ll use the cushion to store… more old blankets.
